Two materials are selected for the preparation of a comparative life cycle analysis. One is a conventional reference material (27MnCr5) and the other is a selected material (20NiCrMo2, 40CrMoBi4 or 38MnSiV4) depending on which of the steels best suites for the production of the gear.

The structure of the LCA has already been prepared and the input data questionnaires, process chain overview, functional unit, goal & scope and boundaries have been developed. The LCA as such will be performed based on the standard ISO 14040:2006.

With the execution of preliminary reference calculation, first outlooks have been worked out, the next step is to complete the data for the inventory analysis in order to start the impact assessment.
